The Battle in the Back Yard!

The Civil War 1861-1865

General Ulysses S Grant and General Robert E. Lee

Head of the Union Army*** Head of the Confederate Army
**********************************

My Civil War battle in the backyard.

The South wanted to make their own country and keep slavery going.

The North said; NO WAY!

The battle was long and horrible!

So many men and boys died!

The conditions were terrible for the soldiers.

Brothers sometimes fought against their own brothers.

In the end the North won!
The confederates surrendered on April 9, 1865
The slaves were free and
we continued to be one united country.

General Grant

Wow Noah, that's it in a nutshell! I hate war and I wish there had been an easier solution but I'm glad slavery was abolished.

Did you know that for a long time in our country only white men were allowed to vote? African Americans were given the right to vote (the 15th amendment) in the year 1870 but it was another 50 years later (in 1920) when women were granted the right to vote (the 19th amendment). That's less than 100 years ago!!!! So our country is making progress and becoming a more fair place for all of us.
Great Post!

Noah: I don't think my mom would like it if she couldn't vote.

Anet: Absolutely!
